Indicator purpose
-
The purpose of this indicator is to measure the level of financial support and investment directed towards the agriculture sector, including official development assistance and other official flows, to assess progress towards achieving SDG Target 2.1: ‘By 2030, end hunger and ensure access by all people, in particular the poor and people in vulnerable situations, including infants, to safe, nutritious and sufficient food all year round’. This indicator provides essential data on the investment and financial support directed towards the agriculture sector, which is critical for the level of commitment and resources allocated to agricultural development initiatives. By monitoring this indicator, policymakers, stakeholders, and organizations can make informed decisions to promote sustainable development and address key challenges such as food insecurity, rural poverty, environmental degradation, and climate change resilience within the agriculture sector. This indicator helps to ensure that relevant populations, particularly rural communities and smallholder farmers, receive adequate support and investment to improve agricultural productivity, enhance food security, and promote sustainable livelihoods, thereby contributing to the overall objective of sustainable, inclusive, and equitable growth.

Abstract
-
This indicator measures the level of financial support and investment directed towards the agriculture sector, including official development assistance and other official flows, to monitor progress towards SDG Target 2.1: ‘By 2030, end hunger and ensure access by all people, in particular the poor and people in vulnerable situations, including infants, to safe, nutritious and sufficient food all year round’. It is defined as the gross disbursements of total ODA and other official flows from all donors to the agriculture sector. The relevance of this indicator lies in its ability to provide critical data on the investment and financial support directed towards the agriculture sector, which is essential for understanding the level of commitment and resources allocated to agricultural development initiatives. The data for this indicator is collected through administrative reports, and it is calculated as the sum of ODA and OOF flows from all donors to developing countries in the agriculture sector. By tracking this indicator, stakeholders can gain valuable insights into the level of commitment and resources allocated to agricultural development initiatives, enabling them to make informed decisions to promote sustainable development and address key challenges such as food insecurity, rural poverty, environmental degradation, and climate change resilience within the agriculture sector.
